Following its 1959 premiere, it became clear that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s very last creation alongside playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, was destined for global success.

A musical with a more sizable amount of adored numbers is yet to be written; no musical has ever been able to maintain relevance and adoration for as long as as ‘The Sound Of Music’; and a tale as wholesome, yet touching on major social issues, is yet to be created.

To date, the Rodgers and Hammerstein II masterpiece has been rekindled numerous times - all to much acclaim. Since its premiere in 1959, it has received five Tony Awards, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Award, alongside many nominations. ‘The Sound Of Music’ has also been adapted into a massively successful film released in 1965, and still enjoyed around the globe.

‘The Sound Of Music’, inspired by the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, follows the tale of Maria, a free-spirited nun, who after stepping in as the governess of the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp, brings back music and happiness to the family. The family is faced with many troubles - from the imminent Nazi-threat brought about by the Anschluss to the inevitable romance between Captain von Trapp - an engaged-to-be-married man, and Maria, a nun.

The truth is that there is plenty to admire about ‘The Sound Of Music’: from the unbelievable professionalism of the oldest nun right down to the youngest Von Trapp child, to the classic, delightful music that can get even the most ardent naysayer to hum along; from the rich orchestrations to the gorgeous sets that change effortlessly from a grey cathedral to the old Austrian magnificence of the Von Trapp house; from the feel-good tale about overcoming difficulty and an innocent love that blooms like the Edelweiss itself|wonderful tale of love, resilience, and music|memorable tale that has been teaching the world to sing and believe in love and music for decades} to the powerhouse cast that carries their parts with excellence, delivers the music with command, and steals hearts from the get-go.

The song has it inch-perfect: the hills are indeed alive with the sound of music, and this fall, you’ll sing once more.
