In this on-stage historical fiction, crowds will experience two and a half hours of incredible Eugene O’Neill-esque chronicles tuned to the tracks of this century’s most celebrated singer.

Set during the 1934 winter of Duluth, Minnesota, the tale centers on a dilapidated guesthouse kept by the Laines. It follows the intersecting lives of the lost souls that take shelter there, from the lonely, adopted daughter Marianne Laine to the self-styled Reverend Marlowe. Sins will spill, and inner demons will wake. Against the oppressive darkness of an economic crisis, can the rays of hope break through?

The production employs the book and direction by Tony Award-nominated screenwriter Conor McPherson. It showcases a scintillating score from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bob Dylan with twenty hand-picked tracks, including hits such as "Slow Train" and "Sign on the Window."

“Yet while this singular production evokes the Great Depression with uncompromising bleakness, it is ultimately the opposite of depressing. That’s because McPherson hears America singing in the dark. And those voices light up the night with the radiance of divine grace.” - New York Times

Titled after the superstar's classic folk track, Girl from the North Country made its debut in 2017, presenting at The Old Vic before transferring to West End London. The limited jaunt was a great success, clinching three wins at the Laurence Olivier Awards.

The musical then traveled to the United States in 2018 at New York's Public Theatre. Here, it won an esteemed Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical from the Outer Critics Circle Awards. The following year, the show finally played on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Despite the shortened run due to the global pandemic, it was nominated seven times at the Tony Awards, earning a Best Orchestrations win.

This fall 2024, the jukebox musical will stop by the Belk Theatre at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center for its latest string of shows. The indoor stadium offers crowds a truly unforgettable experience thanks to its comfortable seats, gorgeous stage, and cutting-edge theatrical facilities.
