Stephen Schwartz & Winnie Holzman, creative founders of Wicked, were inspired by the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".
This musical has been hailed for its expansion of the story of Oz, providing The Wizard of Oz fans around the world a look into Glinda and Elphaba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West). Wicked, even with its main characters starting off as enemies, it is a profound journey about acceptance and friendship. With an incredible costume design and jaw-dropping special effects, Wicked transports its audience direct to the wonderful world of Oz!
The musical originally premiered in 2003, thus it is now 21 years old. Since its inception, Wicked has gone on to surpass $1 BILLION in revenue on Broadway. Only The Phantom of the Opera & The Lion King have managed this remarkable achievement. Wicked has also graced theaters outside of Broadway, with records in Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Miami, and London.
