Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of Paris at the turn of the twentieth century in 1899, the tale follows a youthful English poet named Christian. He is in love with Satine, a cabaret actress and courtesan, who happens to be the shining star of the infamous Moulin Rouge club, “where all your dreams come true”.

As the story unfolds, Christian steps foot in the cabaret club with like minded bohemians: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Santiago the Argentinean. Simultaneously, the musical introduces the financially-driven Duke of Monroth.

Moulin Rouge is a romantic saga of two forbidden lovers. While Satine falls deeply in love with Christian, she has been promised to the Duke by her manager in exchange for financing the next cabaret show. As the young lovers rendezvous behind closed doors, Satine’s wedding day draws nearer and nearer. However, Satine harbors a devastating secret from both Christian and the Duke. What could possibly go wrong?!

Much like the 2001 movie, Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s score blends original tracks with popular hits, including songs that have emerged over the 22 years since the movie’s release.
