The Six story

"Six" is the retelling of the lives of the wives of King Henry the 8th, who was an infamous king of England in the early 1500s. During his nearly four decades as king, he married six times. His efforts to leave his first marriage saw the separation of the Church of England from papal authority. Many people probably are familiar with the story of Henry VIII. However, you be as familiar with the story of his six wives. That’s where "Six" begins.

The musical focuses on the story of these six queens as they tell their difficult experiences with Henry VIII. The queens compete for who had the most awful experience in being married to the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, adultery, and even beheadings in a way that amuses you while also touching your heart. There is a contemporary twist on the story by incorporating a dating app in a hilarious way.

Eventually, they realize that fighting over who had the toughest time with Henry VIII is not helpful. They eventually decide to think about how Henry VIII denied their individuality. They are not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their individual strengths that deserve celebrating. The ex-wives eventually come together to write new endings to their lives. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by picturing what their lives could have been like without marrying Henry VIII.
